For the first test pit dig of 2026, Walkern History Society will be returning to Granary Cottage, 56 High Street. The previous dig at this site, in 2019, revealed a medieval chalk floor.
This time we aim to dig below the floor to see what we can reveal.
As well as the chalk floor, we have also found early medieval Stamford Ware and Roman ceramics at this site. Details of the previous test pits can be found in the links below
