Remembrance Sunday

The Walkern War Memorial was unveiled and dedicated on 3rd July 1919, in memory of the 30 men of the parish who gave their lives fighting in World War I (1914-1918).

A further 5 names were added after World War II (1939 – 1945).

Every year on Remembrance Sunday, villagers gather around the monument to lay wreaths and reflect on the sacrifices made by servicemen, women and civilians affected by war.

Given how close the Pigeon Hut is to the War Memorial, for the last 2 years, we have opened on Remembrance Sunday, offering refreshments, a place to warm up, chat with friends and view the exhibits.
