Walkern Village Fair

The Walkern Village Fair is typically held in the Walkern sports field (by the Walkern Sports and Community Club) on the Sunday of the first May Bank Holiday. It provides a great opportunity for the History Society to connect with the village and encourage new members.

Unfortunately, In 2026, the typical fair did not take place. However the Walkern Sports and Community Club did hold a Village Day, with a football tournament and live bands throughout the afternoon and evening.

The History Society decided to extend the Sunday opening hours in the hope of encouraging visitors. The day was a huge success with a number of new and very interested adults and children visiting.

2025

In 2025, Walkern Fair commemorated the 80 year anniversay of VE day (8th May 1945). Continuing with our Women in Walkern project, Walkern History Society recognised women at war including land girls.

As in 2024, the Pigeon Hut was open to the public with members able to discuss the exhibits.

2024

The theme of the village fair in 2024 was Rough Music. The fair provided a great platform to share our new skills in strawplaiting. In addition to the display and demonstrations of strawplaiting, we also had displays about Mary Andrews and other Women of Walkern.

It also provided an opportunity to show off the newly opened Pigeon Hut to the village, with tours being offered to explain the exhibits.
