Walkern School Log Book 1896 – 1944

Transcribed by Eleanor Waldock

This second volume of the Walkern School Logbook takes us from the closing years of the Victorian era and through two world wars. It is a window into how the dramatic events of the first half of the 20th century impacted a small Hertfordshire village. It tells of air raids, evacuees and helping the war effort, as well as epidemics causing the school to close for months, and the change from children having to work on farms to them visiting farms as part of their education.

The two logbooks are invaluable to those interested in education and local history, and helpful to people researching their family history.

Walkern History Society was formed to inform, foster and promote interest in the history and heritage of the village of Walkern, Hertfordshire; Eleanor Waldock is a founder member.

This book was first published in 2022 as a paperback edition of 100 copies.
