The snow of 1963 cut the village off from Stevenage for about a week. A team of villagers ‘signed on’ at Fed Savage’s coal yard and set to work digging towards Stevenage and were met at Box Wood by a digger working the other way. All the abandoned cars were towed back to the coal yard.
