On 26th March 2026, Janet Woodall gave a talk at our monthly speaker meeting about Elizabeth Kingsley and the bakers of Walkern. Janet shared with us how bread baking had become a profession and how all of the bakers in Walkern (of which there were many) can be traced back to widow Elizabeth Kingsley’s empire in the early 19th Century.
The event was hugely popular, with many people in the audience having direct links to Walkern bakeries or bakers.
