On Saturday November 8th in the White Lion, Walkern History Society will share the story of the ‘Cuckold Riding’. In 1848, villagers were so outraged by the conduct of the Rector’s gardener and “Poll” Andrews they vented that outrage in an unruly and noisy procession of firebrands and rough music. The events culminated outside the White Lion with a riot – the next day a number of men in the village had to appear before a judge…
